The City of South Fulton (South Fulton) was incorporated in 2017, and according to the 2020 Census, nearly 92% of its 111,158 residents are African American. As the seventh largest city in the state of Georgia, The City of South Fulton is primed for a chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi to be chartered, extending the community with all the benefits our historic fraternity is known for providing, specifically the impact of service and youth development/leadership. To serve and uplift this city, the South Fulton Alumni Chapter will provide a lasting effect for many years with the foundation of this 5-Year Chapter Sustainability (Success) Plan.
This 5-Year Chapter Sustainability (Success) Plan of the South Fulton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. focuses on various aspects such as membership growth, community service, professional development, financial stability, and partnerships. Below is a structured approach to crafting this success plan:
Year 1: Foundation and Membership Growth
- Objective: Establish a strong foundation and start to expand membership.
- Actions:
- Strategic Planning: Conduct a planning retreat to define the vision, mission, and goals for the next five years.
- Membership Drive: Implement targeted recruitment campaigns for non-affiliated local alumni brothers and recent college graduates. The chapter will seek inactive and non-affiliated brothers and work with them to become sustaining South Fulton Alumni Chapter (SFAC) members. We aim to create a high-profile chapter where inactive and non-affiliated Brothers can see the members serving the community, fellowshipping among each other, and mentoring the youth in the community, which are potent means of encouraging brothers who reside in South Fulton to contribute to these causes. Additionally, eventually, SFA will have a membership intake, allowing an opportunity for committed men who live and work in the city to contribute to the mission.
- Mentorship Programs: Launch a new member orientation and mentorship program pairing newer members with experienced brothers to foster engagement and retention.
- Marketing: Update the chapter's website, social media profiles, and create regular newsletters to improve communication and visibility.
Year 2: Community Engagement and Professional Development
- Objective: Enhance the chapter’s impact on local communities and provide professional growth opportunities for members.
- Actions:
- Community Service Initiatives: Plan and execute quarterly community service projects that align with the fraternity’s national programs and the City of South Fulton’s local needs. We will work directly with the City of South Fulton to establish and strengthen ties as a valuable resource for the programs and projects that the city leads. Thereby establishing the chapter as a “go-to” organization with which to partner. Additionally, the chapter will host its own initiatives to benefit the community, including but not limited to food drives, political awareness events, initiatives that benefit the elderly and less fortunate, etc. These are a few examples of how the chapter will align with the community to establish strong ties and sustainability.
- Youth Development/Leadership: Create a world-class Guide Right and Kappa League Program to serve middle and high school students in the community. Since 1922, Kappa Alpha Psi has been dedicated to uplifting youth with its Guide Right program. The South Fulton Alumni Chapter will continue this commitment by working directly with the South Fulton youth, primarily through the City’s educational institutions. We will establish a strong Kappa League program, the fraternity’s flagship youth leadership development program. It aims to mentor young men in grades 6-12, focusing on academic achievement, character development, leadership skills, and community service. The young men in the South Fulton community will have the opportunity to be mentored by educated, professional men from their community who look like them and have a vested interest in their success. Partnering with the youth, the chapter will be able to showcase the program and further strengthen its ties to the city, enabling it to grow well beyond the five-year plan as these young men grow into successful and productive citizens of the City.
- Professional Workshops: Organize workshops and seminars on leadership, financial literacy, and career development.
- Partnerships: Establish partnerships with local businesses, surrounding chapters, other Greek letter organizations, and educational institutions for event sponsorship and community programs.
- Member Network: Develop a database of all members to improve networking and support.
Year 3: Financial Growth and Sustainability
- Objective: Ensure financial stability and create funding for future projects.
- Actions:
- Fundraising Plan: Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including events, donor drives, and merchandise sales.
- Signature Event: Develop a signature annual event that can become a staple of the chapter’s activities, attracting broad participation and visibility.
- Grant Applications: Identify and apply for grants that support community service and educational programs.
- Financial Literacy: Provide financial management training for chapter officers and members.
- Investment: Consider establishing a fund for the chapter to support long-term financial health.
Year 4: Expansion of Programs and Membership Engagement
- Objective: Broaden the scope of chapter activities and enhance member involvement.
- Actions:
- Inter-chapter Activities: Increase interactions with nearby chapters to share resources, collaborate on events, and foster brotherhood.
- Feedback Mechanisms: Implement regular surveys and feedback tools to assess member satisfaction and needs.
- Leadership Development: Enhance leadership development programs to prepare the next generation of chapter leaders.
Year 5: Legacy and Long-term Impact
- Objective: Secure the chapter’s legacy and prepare for future challenges.
- Actions:
- Legacy Projects: Initiate a community or educational project that will have a lasting impact and serve as a legacy of the chapter.
- Strategic Review: Review the five-year plan’s outcomes, reassess goals, and plan for the next five years.
- Alumni Involvement: Strengthen the engagement of older alumni through special events and honorary recognitions.
- Documentation and Archiving: Ensure all chapter activities and historical documents are well-documented and archived.
By following this structured approach, the South Fulton alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. can aim to achieve sustained growth and a significant positive impact on both its members and the South Fulton Community.
